our
HISTORY

In 1925, Parish Priest Fr. Tom Sweeney recognised the need for a Convent School in Springsure for the Catholic families within the district and requested help from the Sisters of Mercy.
Construction of the new convent and school was completed by January 1926, and Bishop Sheil blessed the buildings, dedicating the new school to St. Teresa of the Little Flower. The convent, school and boarding facilities were placed under the control of the Sisters of Mercy. The five founding Sisters of Mercy were Sr. Mary Bonaventure Clifford (Mother Superior), Sr. M. Baptist Woods, Sr. M. Gerard Gibbs, Sr. M. Mechtilde Hogan, and Sr. M. Stanislaus Collins.

School commenced for students on Tuesday, 2nd February, with 64 children in attendance, aged between 4 and 13 years old. During this time, the school was widely known as The Little Flower Convent School or simply the Convent School. However, in the 1960s, the Parish adopted its current title and therefore the school became Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School.
The Sisters of Mercy left Springsure in December 1982, and the school was handed over to a lay Principal (Mr Terry Cahill) and an all-lay staff in 1983.
While respectful of our history, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School is very much grounded in the present yet always looking towards the future for our children.
